GRETCHEN BULOVA

Gretchen Bulova has spent the last three decades in the Fairfax community, fighting to elect Democrats to every office. Dozens of local Democrats – including Congressman James Walkinshaw, Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read, and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Jeffrey McKay – have endorsed Gretchen and her proven track record of delivering for Virginians.

Professionally, Gretchen is a leader in the Virginia museum field serving as the Director of the Office of Historic Alexandria, where she oversees eight museums and the City’s archaeology and archives programs. Under her leadership, her department received numerous recognitions including the Virginia Museum Innovation Award and Alexandria NAACP Community Service Award for outstanding social justice work. Gretchen is proud to have served on the board and as the President of the Virginia Association of Museums.

A proven local leader, Gretchen has served as Chair of the Fairfax County History Commission and has been a commissioner since 2006. She also chairs the Fairfax250 Commission and serves as the Governor’s appointed representative to the VA250 Commission. Gretchen has been an active member of the Braddock District Democratic Committee since 1993, serving as Finance Chair for several years. She served in leadership roles in both the Bonnie Brae PTO, as fundraising chair, and the Robinson PTSO, as legislative chair. In addition, she founded and chaired the Middleridge Civic Association National Night Out Against Crime for eight years, and led the 50th anniversary celebration for the Middleridge Civic Association in 2020. She served as Den Leader for Pack 41 and the Treasurer for Scout Troop 1865, where both of her sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Gretchen received her BA from the College of William and Mary and holds a Masters from The George Washington University. She is also a graduate of the Sorensen Institute of Political Leadership at the University of Virginia. Gretchen and her husband David have three children and live in the Braddock District. All attended Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax.
